Accutane drug is considered effective for the treatment of acne. Doctors usually prescribe Accutane after other medicines have failed to bring relief.

Accutane is a kind of vitamin A. The drug acts on the oil glands in the body, lowering the oil produced by them.

Take the drug with a full glass of water so that the drug is swallowed quickly and is not melted in the esophagus, which may lead to irritation.

Once you take Accutane, you can see worsening of acne in the beginning. But do not panic and stop the drug as in a few weeks, you may see the difference. If you want to completely get rid of acne, it is better to take the whole course of the medication. If the medication is stopped in the middle, there are chances for the acne to relapse.

Always follow your doctor’s prescription; never take larger amounts or less the dosage or take it for longer periods unless your doctor says. You have to take care that not a single doss is missed. Well, if a dosage is missed, you can take it before the next dosage. However, if it is almost time for your regular medicine, skip the missed one and continue with the regular prescription.

If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately. Some of the symptoms of overdose are dizziness, headache, vomiting, warmth under the skin, stomach pain, swelling of lips and loss of balance.

Once your doctor decides to prescribe Accutane, tell him about all your health conditions. Better tell him about all the allergies that you have, especially to specific foods, medicines or other substances. Inform the doctor if are having a history of heart and liver disease, bone disorders, high cholesterol, diabetes and depression.

Accutane is not prescribed for pregnant women and for those who hope to get pregnant soon. It has been notified that even a single dose of the drug can cause birth defects in the baby’s skull, eyes, ears, face, heart and brain. Breast-feeding women should only feed their babes after discussing about the risks and complications of the drug to your child. It is quite normal for doctors to go for pregnancy tests while you are on Accutane medication.

You should also not miss your doctor’s appointments and also lab tests. The doctor has to constantly monitor your blood to be sure that the medicine is not having any adverse impact on your health.

When taking Accutane, there are certain things that have to be kept in mind. When taking the drug, you should not use any vitamin supplements containing vitamin A. The drug weakens bones and so it is better not to engage in very hard physical activities. One should not donate blood while taking the drug and also for at least a month after stopping the drug.
